Life is full of stories: adventure stories, miracle stories, kid stories, bible stories. Stories of struggle and loss and provision and surprise, but all these stories are telling one Big Story. The Story of how God loves His children and comes to rescue them, and how we get to play a part in the whole thing as the drama unfolds.

Sometimes what God is doing is so clear and exciting and wonderful that it is hard to deny, but other times it is difficult to understand or even believe at all. When people had a hard time understanding Jesus He helped them by telling stories called parables.

And when life is tough we think it helps to remember the stories of when God seemed near and obvious and extravagant. Our stories and the stories of others are the parables we need to better understand how God loves His children and builds His kingdom...we hope the ones you read here whisper His name...

Hyde Park Parables

Have you ever had a time in your life when you were totally confused, feeling lost and uncertain? Have you ever wished you could know for sure Gods will? Begged for a burning bush or writing in the sky telling you what the right answers are?

Welcome to our life.

This family of four had a great idea...one year ago we were dreaming big, making plans, telling friends, packing boxes and saying goodbye to a life that we loved. Half a year ago we moved across the country. We thought we knew the kind of challenges God had in store for us as we joined a church plant in Hyde Park, but God has had different, difficult lessons than we anticipated.

Brad, Olivia, Flannery and Asher Carpenter are Midwest natives with California heartbeats. We are currently located in the Chicago area but are seeking what else God might have for us. Were jobless, living with our parents and accepting any offers...especially ones in Northern California. This website is dedicated to sharing the pieces of that journey and we hope you will visit it often to learn updates, see pictures and hear stories along the way...

Happy New Year!

The Carpenters are starting 2012 with another big, life-changing announcement...

Brad has resigned from pastoral leadership at Church of the Shepherd. We are leaving Hyde Park and the church plant here.

It may seem like a sudden decision but we are convinced of Gods call away from here and are looking ahead with anticipation to what He has next. Please pray for us!

We would also love to communicate with anyone who has questions about this big decision or would like to know more our struggles here in Hyde Park. Please feel free to email us!
